More Bridging the Gap

I walked into my favorite raw vegan cafe Peace Pies, unknowing of what would unfold between Kenlyn and me. As I looked around the cafe for her, I saw one smiling, glowing face and just knew it was her. We greeted each other and hugged like we had known each other for years.

As we sat down and starting talking and learning about each other, nearly half an hour went by before we realized we didn't order food. We had been so busy diving into discussions about our hobbies, our lifestyles, our diets, our passion-projects, our occupations, where we grew up, and more. We laughed and waved over the waitress to tell her we were ready. It was in that moment of pure connection, of open-heartedness, of not only willingness but eagerness and excitement to communicate and share, that I realized if we approached every encounter with this mindset and attitude we would give and receive so much more in this divine experience we call life. As the Bridge the Gap campaign brings us together to remind us, we are stronger together. There is no need for divisions or labels based on race, gender, class, age, sexualities, and other labels that society tends to separate us with.

It is an honor to be a part of this journey celebrating each other and coming together to send a powerful message that we choose to be seen for who we are rather than be defined by our ages. Onward, sisters and brothers. Today and everyday let us choose to celebrate and honor connection over separation. Let us choose to approach every social encounter with the same open heart and mind that this campaign endorses.
